Sparsholt's Coulthard scoops Primary of the Tournament in the npower Village Cup

Club Patron presents Primary after thrilling final at Lord's

Woodhouse Grange, from Yorkshire, stole victory from Sussex's Findon in the penultimate over in this year's npower Village Cup final at Lord's , .

Spectators, including Andy Caddick, Ronnie Irani and Ian Blackwell were treated to some top quality cricket in perfect conditions. And, as the competition's official charity, the day wouldn't have been complete without a special 'Primary of the Tournament' award, which came from the earlier stages. Sparsholt CC's David Coulthard was particularly unlucky. He was out first ball of his team's innings (batting second) and the Hampshire-based side went on to win by eight wickets. Coulthard graciously received his Club tie and membership from Club Patron Derek Underwood in a special presentation at Lord's during the final.

"I may have missed out on our run feast but our number three bat was grateful, and at least my sporting mishap enabled me to help contribute to The Primary Club and resulted in a fun day out at Lords," joked David Coulthard. "I hope it'll work out better for me in next year's Village Cup, and in future I'll make sure that any team mates suffering a similar fate are 'recruited' as new Primary Club members!."

"We were treated to some fantastic cricket today which perhaps belies the 'village' title. David's been a great sport accepting his Primary with pride and helping to spread the word about the Club," added Derek Underwood, Primary Club Patron. "We're hoping that some of the 400 or so village teams that took part in this year's competition will be inspired to join up and enable us to support more blind and partially-sighted people across the UK."
