TWC Donate Gambling Winnings

The Club has received a cheque for £253 from The Wisden Cricketer, representing winnings from a free £25 monthly bet generously donated to TWC by Ladbrokes.

TWC, long-term supporters of the Club, have been taking on the bookies since the beginning of the year. Successful bets placed by Ed Hawkins, ace forecaster, have included backing England to win the Test series in New Zealand and Kumar Sangakkara to be the top Sri Lankan batsman in the ODI series in Australia, .

"We are very grateful to TWC for the donation of their winnings," said Chris Larlham, Hon Secretary. "Gambling on cricket is not new - it has been going on since the 18th century."

Ed was undone by England\'s surprise win in the ODI series v South Africa - and he was not the only one. A large number of the 168 entrants to the Club\'s new \"Primary Predictions\" competition expected South Africa to win - which perhaps explains why the winning score was only 9 out of a maximum of 14. Primary Club members Derek Noble and Derek Woolford shared the first and second prizes, each winning £147.
